Aston Martin has announced a new concept model called the Cygnet, a “luxury commuter concept” compact car designed for zipping around the city. However, the car’s body framework is being based of the current compact car, the Toyota iQ. Even though the body may be embellished with the Aston Martin wings logo, carbon-fiber vents in the hood and the big grille, it won’t have the performance to match the style. Instead it will be fitted with a 998CC, 67bhp 3 -cylinder Toyota engine.
Even though the car is still a concept for now, it is carded for production in 2010 at an estimated price of US $33,000 which is nearly more than half the price of the Toyota iQ which now sells for US $18,500. With that in mind, it seems like a rather crazy idea on the part of Aston Martin. They however believe that the product may be purchased by current Aston Martin owners, who look for a smaller car to drive around the city in. Maybe parking that big Vanquish V12 in town was too much of a pain?
The Cygnet will be sold only in Europe and the United Kingdom on a limited basis, so Americans once again get stiffed from another quality English product (like we really wanted one that badly?).
