Saab Enthusiasts not going down without a fight

Posted by Bradley Wint on January 4th, 2010 at 12:00 pm

In a more loyal effort to save the Saab company, a group of enthusiasts running the Saab History website are pushing hard to save their favorite car company. Unlike other brand names which got swept under the rug, these guys seem to actually care about their cars and its future.

Like their European car club counterparts, this group is planning a big meet up at the GM Renaissance center in Detroit mere hours before the meeting of GM heads. At this meeting, the fate of Saab is said to be determined. They hope that enough loyalists come out to show their support, it may hint to the GM bigwigs how seriously Saab owners want to keep the company in existence.

For full details about the meeting, check out the release below.

Posted by Bradley Wint on January 4th, 2010 at 10:03 am

A spokesman at Porsche has confirmed that they may most likely include a lower-end Porsche Boxster model that would be more in keeping with EU’s CO2 emission laws.

As a result, customers may expect either a regular 4-cylinder or a 3-cylinder turbocharged engine. They expect it to pump out just 180 g/km of CO2 with power ranging between 180-200bhp. The company has decided to start on the project from now because of pending complications with regards to VW’s ownership of the company.

Aston Martin Cygnet Advert – Free Runners compete to reach first

Posted by Bradley Wint on January 3rd, 2010 at 8:00 am

Aston Martin is going modern and hip with their marketing of their new, ermm…creation called the Cygnet which is based of the Toyota iQ. In my opinion, this is just viral marketing for the product, not for selling sakes, but to let people know about what they’ve created, to interest them in future projects. Check out the video of some spotty teenagers doing their hip thing in order to reach the baby-Aston.

Louisiana Car Insurance Rates to climb in 2010

Posted by Bradley Wint on December 31st, 2009 at 9:28 am

The folks of Louisiana will see an increase in the car insurance premium as of January 1st 2010 due to an increase in the limits of liability coverage offered by insurance firms.

The piece of legislation was approved back in 2008, which resulted in insurance minimum payouts being increased from a 10-20-10 ratio to 15-30-25 ratio. This corresponds to  $15,000 in bodily injury, $30,000 in bodily injury per accident, and $25,000 in property damage (coverage). Obviously because payouts have been increased, premiums will also be increased to compensate.

According to Insurance agent Katie Huval, each customer may end up having to pay $15-20 more per month on their policies. With this in mind, insurance policy holders should check with their agents to find out how to re-adjust their policies to possibly still save even after the increases.

Aston Martin Cygnet limited to Aston owners

Posted by Bradley Wint on December 31st, 2009 at 8:00 am

If you don’t own an Aston Martin (the bigger ones), then don’t bother trying to get your hands on this upgraded Toyota iQ.

According to an article in Aston Martin’s winter issue magazine, the limited edition vehicle will be sold to those who already own Aston Martins. Otherwise, there is nothing else new to tell about the little hatch. Just a little recap about the car: It’s based of the current Toyota iQ and has mostly visual upgraded including an Aston Martin re-styled front and back kit resembling that of the DB9 and Rapide. The interior is also jazzed up in some fancy red and black leather. Under the hood you get a 1.3L doing 97bhp engine. Only 2000 units will be manufactured at an increased price of $33,000 – $35,000. Folks in the US won’t be able to get their hands on this either since Aston Martin intended this for the small european roads within their conjested cities.

India Auto Show to be the biggest one yet

Posted by Bradley Wint on December 28th, 2009 at 12:01 pm

With India’s compact/small car market skyrocketing, event organizers have said that their upcoming Auto Expo will be the biggest one thus far.

The market has done well mainly because consumers’ incomes are increasing and auto makers have turned their attention from the usual markets (USA, Europe) towards this new and growing market. Buyers have gone towards for fuel efficient/cheap automobiles, with sales rising by 61% to 133,687 units in November alone. At the show they expect about 800 auto makers to show off new vehicle as well as concept designs, which is a 40% increase from last year.

Auto makers like Ford, Toyota and Honda have focused on introducing small cars. Honda said they would introduce a new concept vehicle, while Toyota is debuting a vehicle aimed at new drivers emerging into the market.

On the flip side, the event co-ordinators have actually shortened the show by 2 days to avoid the cost overruns suffered by other shows globally. They have taken this measure especially in the economic downturn the country faces. Otherwise, things in general have been positive for them.

Detroit Auto Show – Chrysler will bring out new Fiat 500 models

Posted by Ilia Lou on December 23rd, 2009 at 4:21 pm

You herd right, Chrysler believes the quick and nimble Fiat 500 can be improved by having it fit with an electric motor. In fact, Chrysler will use it’s stand at the Detroit auto show to present multiple of it’s 500 models, like the 500 Abarth and the 500C Convertible. If you like what you see, then you’ll have to wait until 2011 for these cars to arrive at Chrysler showrooms.

However, a bunch of small Fiats isn’t exactly something I’m looking forward to. Luckily, Ferrari is going to show up with it’s 458 Italia, and Maserati will be there with it’s new GranCabrio.
